Romans 8:35-39.The believer has an amazing place in God’s love. It is a wonderful thing to be confident that someone loves you. There is security in that love. When a husband and wife share that it is a beautiful thing. A child is blessed to be able to rest in the security of his/her parent’s love. Dear friend, if you are saved you can be confident, you can be secure in the eternal position that has been given to you “In the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
OUR PLACE IN CHRIST’S LOVE. John 3:16.
Have you ever considered the completeness of what God has done for us in Christ?
We have complete forgiveness. We are totally forgiven of all our sin. We have complete justification. We have been made absolutely right with God. We have complete redemption. All our sin has been PAID FOR IN FULL. WE HAVE A COMPLETE SALVATION.
(Colossians 2:10) “And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:”
Let’s consider for a few minutes the AWESOME eternal love that gave us this complete salvation.
IT IS SIMPLE.
It is really quite simple. Just look at the terms used to describe it. “Whosoever believeth Him.”
“SHALL NOT PERISH.
”What does it mean to not perish? The word “perish” here means to be destroyed, ruined or killed. But the one that simply places their faith in God’s only begotten Son, shall not be destroyed or ruined.
“EVERLASTING LIFE.”
Eternal – constant – abiding life. What is everlasting life? Seventy years? One-hundred and seventy years? One-hundred and seventy million years? NO! IT IS EVERLASTING, IT IS ETERNAL, IT HAS NO END! IN CHRIST WE SHALL NEVER PERISH, WE HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE. What is a million years in comparison to eternity? A million years from now eternity will still be eternal.
IT IS SETTLED!
(John 5:24) “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” This is an extremely important verse.
Friend, the moment that Jesus saves you from your sin your eternal salvation becomes a fact. You have eternal life. There is therefore, at that moment and forever more, no condemnation. You shall not perish. YOU HAVE ETERNAL LIFE! Everlasting life. Life that lasts for ever.
IT IS SEALED!
EPHESIANS 1:13 – 14. “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.”
Look at that, description of how we are saved. YOU HEARD, YOU BELIEVED AND GOD’S SPIRIT SEALED YOU. You were sealed with the promise of God. How long is this promise for? How long will God keep His promise to you? LOOK AT VERSE 14. This promise is unto the day of our full and final redemption. The sealing of God’s Holy Spirit is the earnest (the down payment) on the balance that is paid up for us in Christ in glory.
You do not have to worry about the FDIC – you do not need to concern yourself with a government failure; you do not have to worry about an economic collapse in heaven.
WHAT IS OUR CONCLUSION TO ALL OF THIS?
GOD’S LOVE FOR US IN SALVATION IS SO COMPLETE, SO PERFECT, SO ETERNAL, THAT IT CANNOT BE BROKEN.
Romans 8:35-39 Nothing that can happen in this life, or in the past, or future can “separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
OUR ETERNAL SALVATION IS BOUND UP IN THE WHOLE TRINITY.
THE FATHER. John 6:37a, “all that the Father giveth to me shall come to me.”
THE SON. John 6:37b “and Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”
THE SPIRIT. Ephesians 1:13.
We are sealed by the Holy Spirit unto the day of our final redemption.
How more secure can we be than to be resting in the THREE PERSONS OF THE GODHEAD?
OUR LIFE IN CHRIST’S LOVE.
IT IS A LIFE OF FAITH.
It is sad that this beautiful, wonderful truth of Christ’s eternal love, that has been given to us for our security and assurance is twisted by some to say that: I AM SAVED SO I DON’T HAVE TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT SIN IN MY LIFE, I AM SAVED NO MATTER WHAT, I HAVE LIBERTY.
WE SURELY DO HAVE LIBERTY AND IT IS A LIBERTY BOUGHT AND PAID FOR BY THE BLOOD OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. That alone is good reason to live as holy as a saved sinner can live.
(Romans 6:1-2) “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?” “GOD FORBID.” (Emphasis mine)
The true picture is – if you have truly repented of your sin and by faith have put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ’s blood to cleanse you from your sin. Our God will then preserve you for all eternity. That is God’s side of this. The other side is that, if you are truly saved you will CONTINUE in a life of faith and not return to a life of sin.
DOES THAT MEAN PERFECTION?
No. Of course not. 1 John 1:9 was written to saved people, “If we confess our sin he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
IT DOES MEAN A NEW LIFE IN CHRIST.
The course of our new life in Christ will be a course that is set for heaven.
Example of the Mississippi River. What direction does it flow? The natural grade of the land has set the course for that river. It may bend east or west or even north for a bit. But it must return at the first point available to its southerly course. Christian: God’s eternal love has set a course for you, it is heaven. There will be some bends in the course but God will always at the very earliest opportunity bring you back on course for His heaven.
CONCLUSION: What a glorious wonderful ETERNAL LOVE that God has enveloped His children in. It is a love that will not let you go. It is an EVERLASTING LOVE. To experience that love is a life changing experience. WHAT ABOUT YOU? Do you know that love? Have you experienced the love of God in your life? That love is the everlasting possession for “WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM” That is whoever places their faith and trust in Jesus Christ as their Savior from sin.
Dear friend, your sin is the obstacle. God must judge sin. You will stand in judgement for your sin The only other option is that someone else takes that judgement for you. That is exactly what Jesus did for man.
GOD SO LOVED YOU, THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, JESUS, TO DIE, TO TAKE THE JUDGEMENT FOR SIN THAT YOU AND I DESERVED.
THE CONDITION IS, YOU MUST RECEIVE GOD’S SON, HIS GIFT OF ETERNAL LOVE FOR YOU.
YOU DO THAT BY FAITH, BY TRUSTING WHAT JESUS CHRIST DID TO PAY THE PRICE OF YOUR SIN.
