CUBA COMMITMENT
This week
I was forwarded some information that needs our prayerful attention. It was found that Luis Posada Carriles and three other Cuban exiles go on trial Monday on
charges of conspiring to kill Castro during an international summit in 2000 in Panama.
"If God exists, if justice exists, I ask that they be
condemned," which was told by Justino di Celmo. Di Celmo is the father of a 32-year-old Italian businessman
killed in a 1997 bomb explosion in a Havana hotel.
In an interview with The New York Times in, Posada admitted he was
behind that and several other bombings on the island and expressed no remorse
for the young Italian's death.
Violent
attacks against the island, often launched by Cuban exiles, began soon after
the 1959 revolution that brought Castro to power. Interesting to us though, that many of these
same thoughts will be shown when the country (Lord willing) opens after Fidel
is removed or passes away. Posada was
arrested in Panama in November 2000 along with fellow Cuban
exiles after Castro publicly announced that someone was plotting to kill
him. The defendants have denied any
involvement in a plot to kill Castro, and Panamanian courts ruled there wasn't
enough evidence to try the Cubans for attempted murder. But a Panama judge ordered the men to stand trial on
charges of conspiracy, possessing explosives and endangering public
safety. Panamanian authorities found
explosives hidden outside Panama City and say they have evidence linking the
explosives to Posada and the others.
Through many of these reports I have found in my reading that many Cuban
exiles live in nearby countries plotting against anyone standing in their way –
not just the Cuban government. We must
take action prayerfully to our LORD about these needs. As we have discussed before – if the country
were to open tomorrow – there would be such brutal fighting against anyone that
would stand in the way of these radicals taking back their land. At the same time we must consider if the
present leadership were to fall, whether we are prepared or not, others that
may indeed be worse than what is there now could take power and we are in worse
shape with our goals than before. This
is important to consider, “broaden our thoughts Lord, and focus us on the task
at hand.” Are you praying? Are you enlisting others to pray? I or others involved would be glad to come
and present our ministry to you and your Church if needed. We are asking only that you pray.
