Updates

I guess you have noticed things have been quiet in the news about Cuba lately.  Not much has been said about Raul, or Fidel, or the embargo.  Our US politics have taken center stage and the struggle with soarign gas prices.  I do encourage you to look for the facts in the news and along the web that explain the opportunities Raul Castro has granted his people.  There are many interesting things happening.  One would be the recent creation of legal use of computers and internet use.  Although most in the population cannot afford the internet nor a computer… it is at least legal though.  This will definitely help us in distributing information by CD and DVD.  It is supposed that he is setting up a China-style communism that is lenient upon certain freedoms and allows economic mobility and limited freedoms for future trade.  Without these changes it is certain that the island cannot stand much longer as "old school" communistic. Please pray for the opportunities before us and that we will be "ready" if the doors of free-trade, or easier trade opens to us.

Thank you!  You have given, prayed, and It has been my privilege to serve alongside so many warriors for Christ like you.  The Cuban men we help and train also say thank you.  It is a must that we press on!  I ask you for your consideration in a matter.  Funds are needed for multiple Discipling trips into Cuba.  We have many men both here in the US and in Latin America standing by waiting to go and train the men on the island.  It is our most important task, the raising up of national leaders.  Each trip costs approximately $1500.00.  This is for one person with a rental car to make their trip efficient and meet as many contacts as possible.  It is our desire to send two-by-two and there for the cost would be closer to 2500.00 a trip for two.  This includes all airfares, lodging, and contingency monies built in for emergencies on the island.  If God has burdened you about funding a single trip or multiple trips, it would allow us to continue one of the primary functions of our Commitment. .

God has burdened several Churches to begin supporting our Commitment.  Praise the Lord!  I do need to thank you, the Intercessor for praying for us and that God would grant some funds for the projects we are presently working on.  It is imperative that we keep a full time schedule of ministry for the Cubans.

Information

We are looking into possible changes on how money is sent to Cuba and the Cubans.  Laws are in effect from the Treasury Department on how much one can send to Cuba and to whom, and how it is done.  Through this investigation we have come up with many possible scenarios but we ask you to pray for wisdom and discernment.  No one Cuban national can be paid more than $300.00 US at any time for any reason without prior approval from the Treasury Department and the $300.00 has to have a remittance license itself.  So, it is our desire to be able to equip the men there with printing equipment, which Churches have given towards and completely funded, and help them purchase the supplies for printing.  This will either require many more trips, or a better way to send money to Cuba, specifically to the man we need to pay and be able to insure the funds are transferred legally.  Please pray.

On the Miami Herald website there is a news story worthy of your attention.  It is a series called "The Cuban Puzzle".  If you will notice the link to the left under Subject Links you will find the entire story.  Basically some reporters went undercover in Cuba to see the "watch-and-wait game for democratic change." It is an eye-opener, from an exiled Cuban viewpoint, and from the Cuban on the island as well.  I would be very interested in your thoughts about it.

Intercession

To recap this update we ask that you pray for these needs specifically and look over the letter for more details.

·         Pray for funds to come in soon for the sending of men to Cuba

·         Pray for Wisdom as we investigate ways of sending funds to Cuba.

·         Pray for the clarification needed from the Treasury Department.

·         Pray for the Will of God and it alone to be accomplished!
