CUBA COMMITMENT
Many of our
Cuban contacts have instructed us on how the Cuban mindset is. Many of the Cuban men in the US have found
it very difficult to adapt to the culture of the United States, even those
found in Little Havana, Florida. This
raises a question for us to consider while setting our hearts on these we have
been called to minister to - What is culture?
It is the ways of thinking, living, and behaving that define a people
and underlie its achievements. It is a
nation's collective mind, its sense of right and wrong, the way it perceives
reality, and its definition of self.
Culture is the morals and habits of a people and their obligations
toward our neighbors, community, and government. It is the standards set and enforce for the people of that
culture. Many of these Cubans feel
“stuck in limbo.” The men that were
jailed, persecuted, lost families, and were many times exiled to the US have
found no peace in ministering here in the US.
Why? The culture is completely
different. They are used to the style
and avenues of communism breathing down their neck. They are used to the regime conquering every move they make. They are used to being in Cuba and
ministering to Cubans. Just as we would
feel out of place if we were sent without our families to Siberia and yet still
hold the same burdens for our people here.
The men that I have contact with personally want to go back to Cuba and
reenter the ministries they left behind.
We continue to make our travels and meet their friends still there. As soon we return and I can report on how
these men and women are doing, our friends from Cuba seem more out of place and
with tears they want to go home to their country. These faithful men and women deserve our prayers. Pray for them and their quest to feel a part
of and fulfilled in the ministry once again.
